روش كار آن به اين صورت است كه ابتدا نيروي موتور را به روغن ، و نيروي روغن را بعد از آن به ماشين يا دستگاهي انتقال مي دهند.
ساختمان آن به اين صورت است كه داراي يك پروانه ورودي است كه شبيه يك پمپ روغن عمل مي كند. اين پروانه ورودي بواسطه نيروي گريز از مزكز روغن را به پروانه خروجي منتقل مي كند و به اين ترتيب نيرو به پروانه خروجي مي رود و سبب حركت آن مي شود. عملكرد اين پروانه خروجي شبيه پروانه توربين است.
براي درك بهتر كار توربوكوپلينگ تصور كنيد كه مي خواهيد بوسيله يك موتور پره هاي يك توربين را بچرخانيد. اول ببينيم جه مشكلاتي دارد؟

هنگامي که در يک کاربرد تهويه مطبوع احتياج به سيستم کانال باشد، فن هاي لوله محوري، برد محور يو يا سانتريفوژ را مي توان مورد استفاده قرار داد. در مواردي که سيستم کانال وجود نداشته و مقاومت کمي در مقابل جريان هوا وجود دارد ، فن پروانه اي مي تواند به کار برده شود. در عين حال هنگامي که تجهيزات آماده نصب براي کاربردهايي که احتياج به شبکه کانال ندارند مورد استفاده قرار مي گيرند اغلب فن هاي سانتريفوژ بکار برده ميشود .
فن سانتريفوژ به دليل بي صدا بودن و عملکرد مناسبش در فشارهاي بالا، در بيشتر کاربردهاي تهويه مطبوع بمنظور فراهم نمودن شرايط آسان بکار برده مي شود .
